5 Ways to Get Back Into a Fitness Routine This September

When September rolls around and the kids head back to school, life doesn’t instantly snap into order. Between new schedules, after-school activities, and getting everyone adjusted, it’s perfectly normal if it takes a little time before you feel like you’ve found your groove again. Once the dust settles, though, September is the perfect time to reset and rebuild your own fitness routine. Here are 5 ways to get back on track:

1. Schedule Your Workouts

Don’t wait for “free time” to magically appear—it won’t. Block workouts into your calendar the same way you do for school pick-ups, practices, or work meetings.

2. Start Small and Build Up

After a busy summer, you don’t need to dive into 6 workouts a week. Start with 2–3 sessions, build consistency, and let momentum carry you forward.

3. Reset Your Nutrition

Summer often means ice cream, cookouts, and travel. No guilt—it’s part of the season. September is simply a chance to refocus on whole foods, hydration, and fueling your body for better workouts.

4. Make It Social

Fitness is easier (and more fun) when shared. Invite a friend, bring a spouse, or even make it a family activity. Accountability keeps you moving, and connection makes it enjoyable.

5. Set a Clear Goal

Instead of vague goals like “get in shape,” pick something specific: commit to 3 classes per week, aim for your first push-up or pull-up, or improve mobility. Having a clear target helps you stay motivated and see progress.

Bottom Line: It’s okay if it takes a couple of weeks to find your post-summer rhythm. Once school routines settle, use September as your fresh start to focus on your health.
